For the design-minded.
For design-minded couples with good taste, big hearts, and a soft spot for the in-between moments. We document weddings as they really feel, with a little editorial polish along the way.
Real.Editorial.Playful.

Our Vibe
Our style is best described as documentary meets editorial—with a healthy dose of playful energy thrown in.
Translation: we’re about 90% professional wallflower. We love quietly observing and letting your day unfold exactly as it’s meant to. The belly laughs, the nervous jitters, the messy-beautiful chaos, and those secret “we actually did it” glances? That’s our happy place.
The other 10%? A little gentle editorial direction. Because we have a serious crush on beautiful light, killer table settings, and all those thoughtful little details you've planned. When the moment calls for it, we’ll gently nudge you into a patch of gorgeous light or a great backdrop, just to make sure your styling gets the love it deserves.
No stiff posing. No awkward over-directing. Just honest, effortless photographs where real moments and beautiful design get to hang out together.
The Way We Work
We make wedding photographs for people who care deeply about good design, real connection, and having a genuinely great time while they’re at it.

It all started with a walk, a good coffee, and an open window in Fitzroy.
I was strolling along, having one of those great, easygoing days, when a song drifted out onto the street. The beat was so good it practically stopped us in our tracks. Out came the phone, open went Shazam, and there it was: Emotions and Math.
Right then and there, a thought hit me: If I ever have the audacity to launch my own studio, that’s the name.
Three months later, the audacity kicked in. Welcome to Emotions and Math.

Meet Isla & Roy
Hey! We’re Isla & Roy. The two people you’ll probably spend more time with on your wedding day than you ever expected.
Awkward? Maybe.
Excited about your wedding? Absolutely!!!We’ve never been particularly good at talking about ourselves, so here’s the short-ish version.
Isla
Isla photographed her first wedding on April Fools’ Day in 2016, which feels like either a very good joke or a slightly strange way to start a career.
Before photography, she studied graphic design, and that part of her brain never really switched off. She notices the typeface on a menu, the colour of a wall, a beautifully set table, or the way light falls across a room.
Basically, she sees design everywhere.
She laughs a lot, gets embarrassingly excited about good light, and is somehow both extremely bubbly and socially awkward.
Roy
Roy is a little harder to explain.
He’s calm. Very calm.
The kind of calm where everything could be falling apart and he’d quietly go, “Yep.”
He has a knack for noticing people. The little glances, nervous hands, grandparents laughing in the corner, your dad watching from across the room, someone absolutely losing it on the dance floor.
He’s also strangely good at solving problems before anyone realises there’s a problem.
Need something moved? Roy’s on it.
Missing buttonhole? Roy has it.
Basically, between the two of us, we notice a lot.
What’s on Camera Duty?
Some weddings get Isla. Some get Roy. Some get both of us.
It depends on the day, the coverage, and what makes the most sense for your wedding. Either way, you’re getting the same approach.
Isla usually notices the light, the details and all the visual chaos.
Roy usually notices the people.
Somewhere between the two of us, we tend to cover a lot.
We don’t believe in manufacturing moments for the sake of a photograph. No dramatic instructions. No “pretend you’re in love.” No recreating something that already happened five minutes ago.
We’d much rather let your day be your day.
We’ll step in when it’s helpful, keep things relaxed, and photograph all the little things happening in between.
The weird bits. The beautiful bits. The completely ordinary bits that somehow become your favourites.
Because we’re not here to make your wedding look like someone else’s.
We’re here to make photographs that feel like you.
A little beautiful.
A little chaotic.
Very much alive. And years from now, hopefully you’ll look through them and think:
Oh. That’s exactly how it felt.
A Teeny Tiny Brag
We’re also quietly (and slightly blushingly) honored to have been named one of the 30 Best Wedding Photographers in the World by The Wed.
A tiny humble-brag (we promise to keep it brief).
By some wild stroke of magic, our work has ended up in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, The Wed, Anti-Bride, Lensel World, and a few other places that still make us pinch ourselves. Tooting our own horn feels a bit awkward, so we’ll keep it simple: we’re endlessly grateful, wildly flattered, and still completely obsessed with creating work that feels honest, thoughtful, and true to you.
For the design-minded.
