Our Process / Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, they will have a very distinct aesthetic. Film is known for its beautiful, natural grain, rich color depth, and incredibly soft, flattering highlights. It is a medium that embraces organic imperfections, meaning your photos will feel more like a memory and less like a highly polished digital file.

  • This is where the "math" side of our brains takes over! Before we take a photo, we use external light meters to calculate the exact exposure, shutter speed, and aperture needed for the environment. By trusting our technical knowledge and the science of the film, we do not need to constantly look down at the back of a camera. This allows us to stay completely present and observant, looking out for the quiet, emotional moments happening around us.

  • We fully embrace the perfectly imperfect nature of analog. While we use our technical expertise to ensure your gallery is beautifully exposed and sharp, film naturally lends itself to happy accidents like light leaks, intentional motion blur, or heavy grain in low light. We believe these unique quirks add genuine character and romance to your story.

  • Absolutely. This is where the "math" side of our approach really shines. Low light requires very specific calculations for flash, aperture, and film speed. Once the sun goes down, we often switch to specialized, highly sensitive film stocks and use direct flash for the dance floor. This creates a really fun, nostalgic, and slightly edgy look that feels exactly like a classic party photograph.

  • Yes, always. Analog cameras are beautiful, mechanical pieces of history, but because they are older, we never take risks with your memories. We bring multiple tested, fully functioning film cameras to every wedding. If one decides to be temperamental, we simply pick up another one and keep shooting.

  • Shooting film is a completely different experience compared to shooting digital, both mechanically and mentally. With a digital camera, it is easy to take hundreds of photos in a matter of minutes and instantly check the screen to make sure everything looks right.

With film, the process is incredibly tactile and methodical. We have to manually calculate the ambient light using a light meter, set our exposure dials, and carefully focus the lens by hand. Because there is no screen on the back of an analog camera, we cannot look down to check our work. We have to trust the math.

This physical limitation changes our entire mindset. Instead of checking a screen, our eyes are constantly scanning the room. We become even quieter, more observant, and deeply attuned to your environment. Rather than firing off twenty rapid shots, we wait for the emotion to peak, take a breath, and press the shutter just once. It beautifully shifts the experience from simply taking a picture to actively making a photograph.

  • Unlike digital files that can be uploaded immediately to a computer, film requires a physical, chemical development process. After your wedding, we safely pack up the rolls and send them to a professional film lab. The lab carefully develops the negatives in chemical baths and then creates high-resolution digital scans of each frame. It is a slow, methodical craft, but we promise the final result is entirely worth the wait.

  • Unlike digital cameras where we can take thousands of photos on a single memory card, a standard roll of 35mm film only contains 36 frames. This physical limitation is exactly why we love it. Knowing we only have 36 chances to capture a moment on a roll completely shifts our mindset. It stops us from over-shooting and forces us to be deeply intentional, waiting for the perfect alignment of light and genuine emotion before we ever press the shutter.

  • Yes, and it is a completely manual process. Because a roll finishes after 36 frames, we will need to pause briefly throughout the day to rewind the finished roll, carefully store it, and load a fresh strip of film into the back of the camera. It only takes a minute or two, and we naturally anticipate this to ensure we are always fully loaded for the big, important moments. As quiet observers, we often use these brief pauses to step back, assess the room, and calculate our next shot.

  • Because film is a physical, tangible medium, it carries a unique set of risks that digital files do not. While it doesn’t happen on a daily basis, there is always a slight chance of an unexpected issue, such as film getting damaged in transit or a chemical error occurring during development at the lab. We take every possible precaution to protect your film, but we also believe in total transparency. In the highly unlikely event that your film gets destroyed or compromised, we will provide a full refund for your analog package.

  • Your final gallery will include high-resolution digital scans of all successful film photos, perfectly sized for printing and sharing. We don’t retain the physical negatives, but if you’d like them returned, we’re happy to share the lab we use for developing and scanning, where you can arrange collection directly.
